Retired and Ready to Travel?

Retired and Ready to Travel? Many people can’t wait to retire because it gives them the chance to finally travel like you want to. Traveling is something that many of us look forward to however having trouble finding the time to fit it in between work, school, kids, and the many other aspects of life. Retirement allows us to be much more free with our time. We want to do more than just sit around the house after we’ve put in our time working. Many people decide to buy a travel trailer that way they can just load up what they need and hit the road. There is nothing more relaxing than spending summers in the mountains of Colorado or Wyoming or spending the cold, harsh winters in sunny Florida. Traveling offers an escape for many of us. It helps relieve stress and anxiety from our everyday lives. Choosing to travel can become quite pricey. Sometimes the issue with this is that we do not own a vehicle that is able to haul or pull a travel trailer. Choosing the Best Vehicle So, what ...

Canadian Man Wants to Apologize, 21 Years Later

Canadian Man Wants to Apologize, 21 Years Later I read an article today about a Canadian man who wanted to apologize to the person whose car he stole for the day. That’s right! But it was all a misunderstanding. He was 17 at the time and has recently launched a quest to find the woman. In August 1998, the now 38-year-old Kevin Freedman was working as a lifeguard and swimming instructor at a community pool in Winnipeg. He had a plan to run an errand during his break and was planning to do it on foot. At the time Freedman’s car was totaled after hitting a cow that had unexpectedly made its way onto a dark, rural road. His considerate co-worker, Jocelyne McKie, lent him her car in exchange for a Slurpee from 7-Eleven. McKie wanted to make sure Freedman knew which car was her’s, and he was confident he knew. She drove a popular light-colored 1990s Ford Taurus, and he saw it right away in the parking lot. The windows were down and the doors were unlocked. But there was a tiny issue t...

A Memorable Journey to Singapore

A Memorable Journey to Singapore Land Rover - In 1955, six undergraduates from Cambridge embarked on an impossible journey. This expedition would take these men halfway around the world on rough terrain, from the English Channel to Singapore. One of the men, Tim Slessor, tells of how the trip came together. How it All Came Together Like most college undergraduates, these men had no money and no car, but late one night Slessor came to Adrian Cowell’s room for a nightcap. Cowell started dreaming- out loud. “How about putting together an expedition to drive to Singapore? Crazy? Maybe. But why not? After all, no one else had done it. We could be the first.”After a long night of planning a route and figuring mileages, a team came together. The team comprised of cameraman Antony Barrington Brown (best known to the men as BB), Henry Nott, secretary of the University Motor Club, Pat Murphy, navigator and visa-negotiating diplomat, and Nigel Newbery who became their quartermaster an...

DMC-12 and John Z. DeLorean

DMC-12 and John Z. DeLorean That’s right! The DeLorean. The short-lived American sports car made famous by the 1985 cult classic movie Back to the Future . The DeLorean was manufactured by DeLorean Motor Company, owned by John Z. DeLorean, and made the model from 1981 through 1983. Giorgetto Giugiaro’s design featured gull-wing doors, unpainted body panels, and a rear-mounted engine. Unfortunately, it was more known for its lack of power and performance. Road and Track magazine stated the car was, ".. not quick for a sports/GT car in this price category ..". In 1995 a British entrepreneur created a company using the “DeLorean Motor Company” name and announced in 2016 a plan to build 300-325 replicas of the 1982 DeLorean car. But what do we about the American engineer who founded the company that gave us this beauty? John Z. DeLorean and the DeLorean DMC-12 Mr. DeLorean was an American engineer and inventor with the development of numerous vehicles before the DeLorean....

Historic Route 66- Main Street of America

Historic Route 66- Main Street of America Over the years, Route 66 has provided travelers, dreamers, and renegades with an experience no other route can give. Established November 11, 1926, covered 2,448 miles and originally ran through eight states starting from Chicago, Ill to Santa Monica, CA and quickly began to be one of the most popular highways in America. It soon became known by other names such as The Mother Road, Will Rogers Highway, and was spotlighted in John Steinbeck’s classic novel The Grapes of Wrath. When The Great Depression hit in 1929 over 200,000 traveled to Californa seeking reprieve from The Dust Bowl and used The Mother Road to escape. Some traveled west with the promise of work. With barren land surrounding them, farmers and their families gathered essentials and traveled west in hopes of work. Towns, mom and pop businesses, and service stations along the highway survived The Great Depression by catering to travelers with supplies, fuel, and car parts. Res...

How Movies Portrayed Car Salesmen

How Movies Portrayed Car Salesmen Since the 80s and through the 90s, movies involving car dealerships shined a negative light on car salesmen and painted a stereotypical picture. These comedic characters came off as shady, sleazy, pushy, and willing to do anything to make the sale. The News Wheel has listed the Top 5 Worst Car Salesmen from Movies and they're some pretty bad ones. Here are my three favorites from the list. Rudy Russo from the 1980 film Used Cars . A young Kurt Russell portrays Rudy Russo, a state Senate hopeful. In order to get a $10,000 campaign investment from used car lot owner Luke Fuchs, Rudy must help him sell some cars to keep his business up and running. While doing so, Rudy uses standard stereotypical used car salesmen techniques like cheesy commercials, fast-talking, and pressure selling. He even baits a customer from a competing lot by using a $10 bill on a fishing line to get the man to cross the street. Joey O’Brien from Cadillac Man . The ...

The Function of a Car Alarm

The Function of a Car Alarm There is a great feeling when you purchase your first vehicle. The feeling of excitement, empowerment, confidence, and freedom are just a few feelings. But owning a vehicle can bring daunting feelings of fear, confusion, or anger if it was ever broken into or stolen. No one wants to wake up in the mild of the night to the blaring alarm from your vehicle, but so many people do. Not every alarm is cause for alarm. Could be a stray cat jumping onto your hood, your neighbor's kids soccer ball hitting the side of your car door, some rude person leaning against your baby, or even a loud noise. Texas was ranked #2 for the most vehicle thefts in 2017, and that is not good. So it is no surprise that millions of people invest in expensive alarms and lucky us, there are hundreds of choices for us to choose from. But my question is, how does it all work? Basically, it is a couple of sensors connected to a siren and are divided into two categories: OEM and afte...
