How Movies Portrayed Car Salesmen

How Movies Portrayed Car Salesmen

Since the 80s and through the 90s, movies involving car dealerships shined a negative light on car salesmen and painted a stereotypical picture. These comedic characters came off as shady, sleazy, pushy, and willing to do anything to make the sale. The News Wheel has listed the Top 5 Worst Car Salesmen from Movies and they're some pretty bad ones. Here are my three favorites from the list.

Rudy Russo from the 1980 film Used Cars. A young Kurt Russell portrays Rudy Russo, a state Senate hopeful. In order to get a $10,000 campaign investment from used car lot owner Luke Fuchs, Rudy must help him sell some cars to keep his business up and running. While doing so, Rudy uses standard stereotypical used car salesmen techniques like cheesy commercials, fast-talking, and pressure selling. He even baits a customer from a competing lot by using a $10 bill on a fishing line to get the man to cross the street.
Joey O’Brien from Cadillac Man. The 1990 film centers around a man taking a car dealership hostage, car salesman Joey O’Brien, showcases the epitome of used car salesmen prior to the upcoming chaos. Not only is Joey a sleaze in real life, cheating on his wife with a married woman, he even tries to sell a new car to a widow at her husband’s funeral.
Harry Wormwood from the 1996 film Matilda works as a used car salesman, constantly pulling fast ones on any sucker that’ll fork over some cash. Mr. Wormwood even went as far as selling a lemon to Matilda’s incredibly strict principal, Agatha Trunchbull, resulting in the menacing woman taking out her frustrations on Matilda at school. My personal favorite scene is when he’s turning back the odometer with a handheld drill motor.

But some of us can't help being on our phone or becoming distracted with other things while driving. Thankfully there are a few hand-free options out there, and Apple's CarPlay is one of them. How Much Do You Drive on a Daily Basis?

How Much Do You Drive on a Daily Basis? We live in a society where people typically drive their vehicles for a short period and do not actually pay them off before jumping into a new one. There can be many reasons for this. This means that the total amount that they owed on the previous vehicle is tacked onto the new one so. Therefore, many people are indebted to their vehicles more than they are with their actual home loans. For these types of people, leasing a vehicle sounds like a good option because you get a new one every two years. The only issue with this is that you are only allowed a certain number of miles per year. So, for those of us who travel long distances every day back and forth to work, school or traveling, leasing is not the best option. We exceed the number of allotted miles in only a few months. The Alternative to Leasing A Vehicle So, what does someone do that travels great distances every day to be able to lease or to fit within the qualifications of a l...
