Possibly the Best Anti-theft Device?

Manual Shift Food for Thought

In today's day in age, manual transmissions seem to be a dying breed, so to speak. I admit that automatic transmissions have a certain appeal to them since they are so easy to use. However, they do tend to have more problems when it comes to the mechanics of how they work. Still, the sheer ease of their usage tips the scales in favor of the majority of most people. Interestingly, since it is rare to see a manual transmission anymore, some side effects have arisen.

The first side effect that comes to my mind is that it's not easy to find someone below the age of 30 that knows how to drive one. For quite some time, I drove a late 90s model Ford Explorer that had a stick shift and it seemed to be one of a kind. Everyone who sat in the SUV with me noticed right off the bat that it's different, and they commented about how weird it is to see a stick shift in that particular model. I guess because I have driven a manual my entire life, I never noticed how few there actually are. A while back, I started paying attention to my friends' cars, and every single one is automatic. I became painfully aware of how few people know how to use a manual gear shift these days when I went on a road trip with a friend. We took my Explorer, and along the journey, I got tired and asked my friend if he didn't mind driving. He said he would, but he didn't know how to use a stick shift. I drove the entire way to and from Central Texas to South Dakota. It was on that trip that I realized the art of driving a stick shift was dying.

A Good Benefit

On the other hand, I did have an epiphany that there is a silver lining to the cloud. A manual transmission may be the best anti-theft device that's out there for cars and trucks nowadays. That's not to say that your car won't get burglarized, but I do think that there is a significantly smaller chance that the thief won't actually steal the entire vehicle. I could see it happening in my imagination; a scurrilous brigand is desperate for a getaway vehicle and breaks into my Explorer only to find that he is incapable of driving off with it because of the manual transmission. There is a reason I use the word 'desperate.' It's because the would-be thief would have to be if he was eyeballing my Explorer as a way to escape the authorities. More than likely, he would break in and leave a note that said he was sorry.

Below are a few myths and facts that you may have wondered about, such as types of car soap, supplies, and other topics. This or That There might have come a time that you were out of car soap or heard from someone that dish detergent will clean your car. Well, it would CLEAN your vehicle, but dish detergent will actually speed up oxidation on the paint, and it will lead to a degradation of the paint job. A shiny car isn’t necessarily a clean car. To honestly know if your vehicle is clean, you should feel the paint to see if it feels glossy and not coarse. If it feels more like sandpaper, then the car isn’t clean, a...
