A Few Facts About the Ford Motor Company

Ford Motor Company

The Ford Motor Company has seen it all since Henry Ford opened the Ford Motor Company in 1902. From producing vehicles for the public to helping with military equipment, going through some rough times in the past, and to some financial problems. The company has proven to be a brand that plans on sticking around for a long time. Here are a few interesting facts that many have not worked out and some that we still see today.

Ford Facts

  • Ford was the first company to manufacture and sell cars. Their first model, the Model A, sold for $850 and only hit a max speed of 30 mph.
  • The Ford assembly line was devised after Henry Ford got the idea from a pig-slaughtering plant.
  • They offered better pay to their employees offering double the market average pay at $5 a day.
  • While the first Ford was sold in 1903 to Dr. Pfennig (Ford’s current CEO, Jim Hackett, owns it today), the iconic Ford logo was first introduced in 1907.
  • Many may not know that Henry Ford and Thomas Edison were close friends and before making cars Ford was the Chief Engineer of the Edison Illuminating Company. Ford left Edison Illuminating after Edison encouraged him to pursue his plans for a gasoline automobile. The men were so close that Edison requested his son to capture his last breath in a tube, Ford kept the tube as a memorial to his friend.
  • While the Model A was the first model sold by Ford, their success didn’t rise until the release of the Model T.
  • At one time, Ford tried their hand in airplanes during World War I but was shut down in 1933 due to poor sales.
  • The company was ahead of its time and was a “green” company before 1939. Human and animal manure was used to power factories.
  • Children were able to enjoy what Ford has to offer. After the release of the Mustang in 1964, 94,000 pedal-powered Mustang toys were introduced and sold the following Christmas to children.
  • Ford has seen its fair share of celebrities from the first Monster Truck, Bog Foot, using a Ford vehicle as its base to Doors singer Jim Morrison, only ever owned a 1967 Shelby GT 500.

Classic Automobile Features in You Won't See in Modern Cars

Classic Features Classic Features in Cars You Won’t See Today Who knows what kids will reminisce about years from now about their first car. Heck, there’s a chance vehicle won’t run on gasoline anymore, and that is something they will look back on and find nostalgic. Vehicles can start with the push of a button on your keychain, you can open the hatchback with the swipe of your foot, and heated seats (my personal favorite) are just a few features you can find in cars today. Here are a few classic features you won’t see today but were the best. Oldies and Goodies One of my favorites, bench seats. For some reason, I always thought they were fun as a kid, but looking back now, I realize how horrible they really were. Being squished between two adults was actually uncomfortable during long rides. I guess as a kid, you feel the front seat was larger than it really was, and sometimes you had it all to yourself- that’s fun. I’m sure several teenage boys took advantage of the seat design...

Is the Future Now? Self Driving Cars

SELF DRIVING CARS Popular Mechanics - If you were like me growing up, the future looked like an episode of The Jetsons. As a kid, I thought the future what going to bring us talking watches, self-cooking ovens that prepare entire meals, closets that dress us at the push of a button, and of course flying cars. Well, we are not that far off. At the moment there is a possibility that we will see self-driving vehicles on our roads. This possibility has been on the horizon for the past few years, as companies like Tesla and Waymo have been focused on bringing autonomous vehicles to the market. In 2017, the U.S. House passed legislation that could accelerate the development of self-driving cars by allowing them to be driven in all 50 states. The Safely Ensuring Lives Future Deployment and Research In Vehicle Evolution Act (SELF DRIVE) exempts automakers from some safety standards that aren't relevant to autonomous vehicles and permits selling up to 25,000 cars per year without needing ...
