Holiday Road Trips

That time has fallen upon us; the time of long drives, scattered meals from convenience stores, and that dreaded question repeatedly asked, “Are we there yet?” Driving miles to see extended family members or a simple family vacation, getting to your destination safely is your number one priority. No matter your destination, it is always best to do some research and take care of your vehicle before hitting the road.

Things to Check and To Keep in Mind

During this time of year, weather conditions, limited daylight, and drivers who are traveling in unfamiliar areas can cause trouble during your drive. A few things you can do for safe travels is planning ahead.

  • Check the weather before heading out, map out your drive, and look for construction work, detours, or closed roads.
  • Get a good night's rest. You should plan your trip allowing enough stops for rest or breaks to stretch your legs. Eating decent meals and drinking plenty of water may also keep you feeling refreshed and clear-headed.
  • There is bound to be heavy traffic during the holidays, and not everyone is as vigilant as you in doing their research. Driving defensively can allow you to control a situation involving an aggressive driver. By letting them pass may keep you and your passengers safe.
  • Keeping your vehicle in tip-top shape is another way to ensure a safe drive. Keep up with routine oil and filter changes. Be sure to keep your tire iron and jake in the car as well as checking your spare. Keeping your jack in the car makes it easier to deal with a flat tire by keeping you from digging through the luggage packed in your trunk.
  • Pack essentials to be prepared for winter weather. Keeping towels, water, windshield scraper, extra blankets, and having roadside assistance information on hand can keep your mind at ease and on the road.

Classic Automobile Features in You Won't See in Modern Cars

Classic Features Classic Features in Cars You Won’t See Today Who knows what kids will reminisce about years from now about their first car. Heck, there’s a chance vehicle won’t run on gasoline anymore, and that is something they will look back on and find nostalgic. Vehicles can start with the push of a button on your keychain, you can open the hatchback with the swipe of your foot, and heated seats (my personal favorite) are just a few features you can find in cars today. Here are a few classic features you won’t see today but were the best. Oldies and Goodies One of my favorites, bench seats. For some reason, I always thought they were fun as a kid, but looking back now, I realize how horrible they really were. Being squished between two adults was actually uncomfortable during long rides. I guess as a kid, you feel the front seat was larger than it really was, and sometimes you had it all to yourself- that’s fun. I’m sure several teenage boys took advantage of the seat design...

A Few Facts About the Ford Motor Company

Ford Motor Company The Ford Motor Company has seen it all since Henry Ford opened the Ford Motor Company in 1902. From producing vehicles for the public to helping with military equipment, going through some rough times in the past, and to some financial problems. The company has proven to be a brand that plans on sticking around for a long time. Here are a few interesting facts that many have not worked out and some that we still see today. Ford Facts Ford was the first company to manufacture and sell cars. Their first model, the Model A, sold for $850 and only hit a max speed of 30 mph.  The Ford assembly line was devised after Henry Ford got the idea from a pig-slaughtering plant.  They offered better pay to their employees offering double the market average pay at $5 a day.  While the first Ford was sold in 1903 to Dr. Pfennig (Ford’s current CEO, Jim Hackett, owns it today), the iconic Ford logo was first introduced in 1907.  Many may not know that H...

Is the Future Now? Self Driving Cars

SELF DRIVING CARS Popular Mechanics - If you were like me growing up, the future looked like an episode of The Jetsons. As a kid, I thought the future what going to bring us talking watches, self-cooking ovens that prepare entire meals, closets that dress us at the push of a button, and of course flying cars. Well, we are not that far off. At the moment there is a possibility that we will see self-driving vehicles on our roads. This possibility has been on the horizon for the past few years, as companies like Tesla and Waymo have been focused on bringing autonomous vehicles to the market. In 2017, the U.S. House passed legislation that could accelerate the development of self-driving cars by allowing them to be driven in all 50 states. The Safely Ensuring Lives Future Deployment and Research In Vehicle Evolution Act (SELF DRIVE) exempts automakers from some safety standards that aren't relevant to autonomous vehicles and permits selling up to 25,000 cars per year without needing ...
