Tips to Help You Keep Safe While Driving During the Bright Sunlight
Driving while the sun is setting or rising can become problematic if you are driving toward it. Let's face it, it happens to all of us, and sometimes there is no way around it. Sun and headlight glare can make it hard to see other drivers and potential hazards. After being exposed to glare, it takes a few minutes for our eyes to adjust. I personally have had to pull over because of the discomfort from the glare. It only takes a few seconds of having your eyes off the road to cause an accident. Bright sunlight is a dangerous driving condition. According to the Insurance Information Institute obscured vision, such as rain, snow, glare, lights, etc., has caused 1,566 fatal crashes in 2016.Luckily there are several tips to help you drive during this time of the day. Some are no-brainers and others you might not have thought of.
-Have a good pair of sunglasses handy. You don’t want to have to fumble through your car or bag looking for them, that is time with your eyes off the road you can't afford.
-Don’t forget about your cars sun visor. Some vehicles come with two to block the sun from the front and the side.
-Keep in mind the time of day in which you want to travel. Sun glare is worse in the early morning and late afternoon.
-Drive with a clean windshield. This can make a huge difference during your travels.
-Expect the traffic in front of you to slow down during this time of the day. They are in the same situation as you and are being cautious.
-Driving with your headlights on during the day will make it easier for other drivers to see you.
-Get your windows tinted. The film will block a percentage of the suns rays from entering your vehicle.
-And last, if you are having a difficult time seeing the road or if the sunlight hurt your eyes, consider pulling over to a safe place for a few minutes to let the sun reposition.
