What’s in a Name?

What’s in a Name?

I’m sure you know someone, or you yourself have named your vehicle. I personally have never named any vehicle I’ve ever owned. Funny things is, cars I’ve borrowed from friends, I have named and designated a gender. The latest, The Black Beast! My friends 1992 GMC pickup, and she was a beast. I’ve wondered why anyone would name their car. Does it matter, does naming your truck a more enjoyable ride, will it treat you better if you show it some respect? I just don’t know, but I do enjoy hearing what names were given to these wonderful automotive inventions. Cheetsheet.com has put together a very informative survey that might help those (me) understand why and what are some of the more popular names that men and women give.
AutoNation reportedly surveyed over 2,500 people during the course of a week for this study, to uncover both the most popular car names, as well as the most nicknamed car brands in America.

Here’s list of popular names women have given their vehicle:
  • Betsy
  • Bessie
  • Baby
  • Bertha
  • Herbie/Precious/Sally
Men:
  • Betsy
  • (The) Beast
  • Sally
  • Lucy
  • Bertha

That’s just a few to name. I can see why someone would want to name them. You spend so much time in your car and rely on it every day. Showing some sort of appreciation isn’t silly. It also turns out the Ford Mustang is the most nicknamed car model in the nation and that the Honda Civic is the most named car model out on the West Coast. The top-five car makes people currently name are: Ford, Toyota, Honda, Chevrolet, and Nissan, while men tend to name their cars more than women do for some reason. Interestingly, eight out of the 12 most popular car names recorded start with the letter “B,” and of these, the majority are either common names for women or non-gender specific. AutoNation got it right when they said that “When you choose to name something, more often than not it’s because that thing means something to you. Bestowing a name signifies that importance and closeness, so it’s no wonder why some people choose to dub their cars.” So this coming National Name Your Car Day, get out there and present your vehicle with a name that will truly empower your modern day steed, I know I will.

Historic Route 66- Main Street of America

Historic Route 66- Main Street of America Over the years, Route 66 has provided travelers, dreamers, and renegades with an experience no other route can give. Established November 11, 1926, covered 2,448 miles and originally ran through eight states starting from Chicago, Ill to Santa Monica, CA and quickly began to be one of the most popular highways in America. It soon became known by other names such as The Mother Road, Will Rogers Highway, and was spotlighted in John Steinbeck’s classic novel The Grapes of Wrath. When The Great Depression hit in 1929 over 200,000 traveled to Californa seeking reprieve from The Dust Bowl and used The Mother Road to escape. Some traveled west with the promise of work. With barren land surrounding them, farmers and their families gathered essentials and traveled west in hopes of work. Towns, mom and pop businesses, and service stations along the highway survived The Great Depression by catering to travelers with supplies, fuel, and car parts. Res...

Williams Group Auto - Seatbelt Statistics | Used Car Dealership in Abilene

The Importance of Wearing Your Seatbelt When doing our research into buying a new vehicle, we shop around, go for a test drive, look into the car's history, find repair records, and other countless things. A few other things we look for might not be as important in the purchase process but more of a personal preference, such as color, whether it has Bluetooth, a sunroof, and so on. Either way, it is safe to say that we all want the same thing, to feel safe in our vehicle. When it comes to our safety, seat belts are one of the most important devices. They are important in our everyday lives to us and our passengers. While some incidents are rear-ended accidents, others are scarier. And what is more frightening is that in 2016 there were 37,461 people killed in motor accidents, and 48% of them were not wearing a seat belt. Not wearing or improperly wearing a seat belt can have fatal consequences, and to spread awareness, the State of Texas introduced the program Click it, or Ticket...
