Is a Convertible Right for You

Is a Convertible Right for You
People debate on whether or not to go for a convertible. There’s a lot to think about, not only for yourself but your passengers as well. Some people like the idea of an open-top, they like the idea of others thinking they like open-tops, and sometimes the car they want is only available as a convertible. Here are a few things Practical Motoring can up with to help you decide.

A Little Info

You’ve obviously heard of the term convertible, but what about cabriolet? They refer to the same thing- a car with a removable roof, leaving just the windscreen in place.  “Cabriolet” is a word with French origins and is used by carmakers in an attempt to sound upmarket. You’ll need to decide if you want a soft-top convertible made from canvas or similar or a hard top convertible made from plastic or metal. Soft tops are lighter but cheaper, less secure. A car with a sunroof is something to think about if you don’t want to go full convertible. Keep in mind, a sunroof will add weight to your car where you don’t want it. But unless you’re a professional race car driver, you won’t notice. Going full convertible is way more fun. Having the wind in your hair, the feel of speed, and sunshine is always nice. If you’re still not sure, check with a local dealership about renting one for a week. There’s something to consider, convertibles take a little more looking after. You have to remember to put the top on when the weather turns or quickly pull over if the weather turns bad while on the road and you can’t park under a tree- bird poo!

Classic Automobile Features in You Won't See in Modern Cars

Classic Features Classic Features in Cars You Won’t See Today Who knows what kids will reminisce about years from now about their first car. Heck, there’s a chance vehicle won’t run on gasoline anymore, and that is something they will look back on and find nostalgic. Vehicles can start with the push of a button on your keychain, you can open the hatchback with the swipe of your foot, and heated seats (my personal favorite) are just a few features you can find in cars today. Here are a few classic features you won’t see today but were the best. Oldies and Goodies One of my favorites, bench seats. For some reason, I always thought they were fun as a kid, but looking back now, I realize how horrible they really were. Being squished between two adults was actually uncomfortable during long rides. I guess as a kid, you feel the front seat was larger than it really was, and sometimes you had it all to yourself- that’s fun. I’m sure several teenage boys took advantage of the seat design...

Ford Facts Ford was the first company to manufacture and sell cars. Their first model, the Model A, sold for $850 and only hit a max speed of 30 mph.  The Ford assembly line was devised after Henry Ford got the idea from a pig-slaughtering plant.  They offered better pay to their employees offering double the market average pay at $5 a day.  While the first Ford was sold in 1903 to Dr. Pfennig (Ford’s current CEO, Jim Hackett, owns it today), the iconic Ford logo was first introduced in 1907.  Many may not know that H...
