Car Facts

First off, there are one billion cars used on the earth, currently, with about 165,000 being produced every day. After buying that new (or even used) car, you first appreciate that “new car smell.” The smell is composed of over 50 volatile organic compounds. There are more cars than people in Los Angeles. I’m sure you have experienced this, I’m guilty, but having no recollection of your drive to work or school (autopilot) is called "Highway Hypnosis." It would also take less than six months to travel to the moon, by car, going 60 mph; I would for sure experience Highway Hypnosis then. 95% of a car’s “life” is spent parked. Another tasty fact that you shouldn’t try, but you could set up a holiday meal inside a car's engine compartment and drive long enough to fully cook all of the food.

In the Early Years

While Hitler was in prison, he wrote to a Mercedes dealership begging for a car loan. The inventor of the cruise control happen to be blind and in 1941, Henry Ford made a car out of soybeans, not sure how that worked out. The inventor of intermittent windshield wipers tried to sell his idea to the auto industry and was turned away. When they began showing up on new cars, he sued, and won; I think they even made a movie about his story. In the early 20th century, horses were causing so much pollution with their manure that cars were seen as the "green" alternative. Little did they know that their biggest concern what horse poop, I’m sure they would have a huge meltdown if they knew what we’re worried about today. Here’s another one: when the car radio was introduced, some states wanted to ban it arguing that it could distract drivers and cause accidents. Okay, one last fact, the first armored presidential car was a Cadillac that had previously belonged to Al Capone.

Do You Prefer a Ford or Chevy?

Do You Prefer a Ford or Chevy? This is the age-old question. Ford or Chevy? Ford lovers wouldn’t be caught dead driving a Chevy, and Chevy lovers wouldn’t be caught dead driving a Ford. Fortunately, this type of mindset is falling by the wayside as the new millennial generation is growing. Many of them do not share the rivalry that their fathers and grandfathers shared between these two makes of pickup trucks. How Movies Portrayed Car Salesmen

How Movies Portrayed Car Salesmen Since the 80s and through the 90s, movies involving car dealerships shined a negative light on car salesmen and painted a stereotypical picture. These comedic characters came off as shady, sleazy, pushy, and willing to do anything to make the sale. The News Wheel has listed the Top 5 Worst Car Salesmen from Movies and they're some pretty bad ones. Here are my three favorites from the list. Rudy Russo from the 1980 film Used Cars . A young Kurt Russell portrays Rudy Russo, a state Senate hopeful. In order to get a $10,000 campaign investment from used car lot owner Luke Fuchs, Rudy must help him sell some cars to keep his business up and running. While doing so, Rudy uses standard stereotypical used car salesmen techniques like cheesy commercials, fast-talking, and pressure selling. He even baits a customer from a competing lot by using a $10 bill on a fishing line to get the man to cross the street. Joey O’Brien from Cadillac Man . The ...
